Nicolas Copernicus, the founder of modern astronomy proposed that the centre of Universe is the sun and all the planets including our Earth revolve around it. His proposal proved the earlier proposal given by Ptolemy that the Earth is the centre of the universe and all the other celestial bodies revolve around it, wrong. Copernicus was born in 1473 in Poland. In 1496 he joined the University of Bologna to study canon law. Later he was elected as canon of cathedral of Frendburg. He took advantage of his income and begun his astronomical observation. Copernicus also practiced medicine.
