Being a student, we are familiar about this day- 5th September! Aren't we?
This is observed as National Teacher's day, the birthday of the great teacher, philosopher and educationist - Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Those who studied under him still evoke him with appreciation.
It is India's atypical privilege to have a great educationist to have her President.
Although he was a firm and highbrow teacher, he was a very humanitarian person.
In his early days as a professor in Presidency college, Madras, he was outstandingly prevalent amidst his students.
Later, he was offered professorship in Calcutta University and a vice chancellor position at Andhra University and Benares Hindu University.
His scholarship credit came again in 1936 when he was bidden to fill the Chair of Spalding Professor of Eastern religions and Ethics at Oxford.
He earned very early international recognition.
After India's independence, he became an ambassador to the Soviet Union.
He made 11 different country visits including U.S.A. and U.S.S.R.
Radhakrishnan was drawn into philosophy quite by accident.
Because of his concentration, skill and principles, he also became a great philosopher.
In 1952, He became the Vice President of India and head of the state for five years.
Plato sought to philosophers to be kings and it is an accolade to India that she made a philosopher her president.
