Great Lives
The Editorial team
The famous freedom fighter, Joan of Arc was born on 1412 in the little village of Doremy, France. Her father often told her about how it was in the possession of England and how the king didn't dare to get crowned. This used to make her very sad. From then she began to see angels and hear strange voices saying Joan you can deliver the land from the English. Go to the relief of king Charles of France.
She believed she had a mission for god and she determined to save France. Even when everyone tried to dissuade, her she went to the king and asked him to allow her to lead his soldiers. The king reluctantly agreed and when she was only just eighteen years old she led an army of 5,000 men against the English, who had till then, conquered the city of Orleans. Mounted on a fine war horse, clad in white armour, a large shield in one hand and an ancient sword in the other, she led her army to victory. Sadly, after a few days after their victory, she was burnt at the stake by her own people thinking her to be a witch.
