   You must have heard that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. But do you know that he also has the greatest number of inventions in his name? The phonograph, the electric bulb, and motion pictures are the most famous among them. Thomas Edison, also called the Wizard was born in Milan, Ohio in 1847. He had learned to speak at the age of 5. In school, his thoughts often wandered and his teacher was tired by calling him addled. Edison sold candy and newspapers on trains. Edison developed hearing problems at an early age. The cause of his deafness was due to scarlet fever and untreated ear infections. He was injured once when his chemical laboratory caught fire and he was thrown out of the along with his apparatus. After years, Edison modified the story that the injury occurred when the conductor lifted him on the moving train by the ears. Edison began his career as an inventor with the improved telegraph as his first invention but the phonograph was the first invention to gain notice. This accomplishment was so unexpected that the public thought it was magical.
