   The resemblance to the landscapes in Scotland, has earned Shillong the title of Scotland of the East. Shillong is located in North East India, at an altitude of 4,990 Feet. Shillong was the summer capital of Eastern Bengal and Assam until 1864. In 1874, Shillong became the capital of the newly created province of Assam. Again, in 1972 when Meghalaya was separated as a new state from Assam, Shillong became the first capital of Meghalaya. Here, different languages are spoken, namely English, Hindi, Khasi, Garo and Assamese. The main religion is Christianity. Some other wonderful facts about Shillong -Terrace farming is practised in Shillong. It 's a place of amazing waterfalls, namely Elephant Falls, Spread Eagle Falls, Sweet Falls and Crinoline Falls.
