The great philosopher Plato described Atlantis as a magnificent, continent sized island located somewhere on the west of the Mediterranean. He had said that a violent earthquake shook the land resulting it to sink underwater. Was it just a fable or was he referring to a real place? Some scientists now believe that Plato was referring to the once powerful Minoan empire because it was also destroyed by a volcanic eruption. The island of Crete was the centre of the Minoan empire, in power around 2600BC. According to Plato, Atlantis was a city of the colours black, red and whites same as the Minoans. Their main worship idol was the bull similar to the Minoans. However, he described that Atlantis was to be found near the "Pillars of Hercules" or the Strait of Gibraltar. Recently, satellite data found some ruins in Coastal Spain which match Plato's descriptions. The site's age is unclear, and if Plato's date was true, then the city of Atlantis might date back to the Ice Age, before any know civilization.
